OVERVIEW

After multiple comparisons, the customer officially signed a contract with RICHI on September 3, 2018, and ordered a complete set of fully automatic broiler chicken feed mill in Zimbabwe with a capacity of 3-5 tons/hour.

The project investment is about 64,000 US dollars, the construction and installation period is 30 days, and the plant size is set at 9 meters by 5 meters by 13 meters, which meets the space required for daily production and also reserves room for subsequent expansion.

In terms of raw material selection, this broiler chicken feed mill in Zimbabwe uses local easily available corn, wheat and other grains as basic raw materials, supplemented by rice bran, soybean meal and other protein supplements. These raw materials are not only easy to purchase and relatively stable in price, but also have nutritional components that meet the energy and protein needs of broilers at different stages. They are the first choice for most farmers in Zimbabwe to make compound feed.

Project Background

In southern Africa, Zimbabwe's poultry industry has always been one of the most promising and dynamic branches in local animal husbandry. In recent years, with the continuous growth of the domestic urban population and the increasing demand for high-protein meat, broiler farming has developed rapidly in Zimbabwe and its neighboring country South Africa.

According to relevant statistics from the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Zimbabwe's broiler production accounts for 58.6% of the region, while South Africa's is 66.4%. This not only brings rich profit expectations to broiler farmers, but also puts higher requirements on high-quality and stable supply of feed.

The customer cooperating with RICHI this time is a local animal husbandry practitioner in Zimbabwe with many years of breeding foundation. It has long been mainly engaged in small and medium-sized broiler breeding, while taking into account the sales of some poultry. In the process of breeding expansion, they found that the price of finished feed on the market fluctuated greatly and the quality was uneven, which had different degrees of impact on the growth rate, survival rate and meat quality of broilers.

In order to improve the controllability of feeding and reduce the cost of long-term feed purchase, the customer decided to build a chicken feed production line with a considerable annual output next to the original farm, realize self-production and self-use of feed, and gradually supply it to surrounding small farmers to open up new profit channels.

Process design and equipment configuration

In order to ensure that the finished feed is nutritionally balanced and the particles are uniform and delicious, the entire production process of broiler chicken feed mill in Zimbabwe adopts internationally advanced automatic batching, crushing, mixing, conditioning, granulation, cooling, screening and automatic packaging.

  1. First, the corn and soybean meal purchased by the customer from the local grain buyer will go through the crushing link before entering the production line. The chicken feed crusher model SFSP.56*40 is used to crush the larger particles into uniform fine powder, laying the foundation for subsequent mixing.
  2. The crushed raw materials will be evenly mixed according to the customer's formula through the SLHY.1 mixer equipped with a pneumatic door. In order to avoid the mixing of metal impurities, the entire line is also equipped with TCXT20 permanent magnetic cylinders to effectively remove possible iron filings in the raw materials and protect the safety of subsequent equipment operation.
  3. After the raw materials are evenly mixed, they will be temperature-controlled by steam provided by the gas boiler during the conditioning process, so that the moisture content and temperature of the powder will reach the most suitable state for pelleting. The steam-conditioned materials will enter the SZLH.350 ring die poultry feed pellet machine.
    Under the strong extrusion force of the ring die and the roller, the raw materials overcome the hole wall resistance and are continuously extruded into strips, and then cut into broiler feed pellets ranging from 1 to 6 mm by the external cutter according to the set length. This size range is precisely designed according to the chewing ability and digestion characteristics of broilers at different growth stages.
  4. The temperature of the freshly extruded feed pellets can reach 70-85 degrees Celsius. If they are not cooled in time, it will not only affect storage, but also may cause mildew due to water vapor retention.
    Therefore, the feed  line is equipped with SKLN1717 countercurrent cooler and SK800 cyclone separator, which can quickly reduce the pellet temperature to no more than 5 degrees Celsius from the room temperature under the action of the fan to ensure the dry and safe pellets.
  5. After cooling, the finished pellets are passed through the SFJH1002 rotary screening machine to remove powder and fragments of different sizes, and finally sent to the DSC-50 automatic packaging machine for weighing and packaging into bags, which is convenient for customers to store or sell in batches on demand.

Features

This broiler chicken feed mill in Zimbabwe with a daily output of 3-5 tons fully considers the local electricity and labor conditions. The TBLMa.12B pulse dust collector, TLSS20 screw conveyor, and TDTG36/18 bucket elevator form a compact and efficient raw material transfer system, which greatly reduces the intensity of manual operation and reduces energy consumption.

During the on-site construction, the RICHI team carried out multiple design optimizations based on the layout and detail requirements put forward by the customer, which not only ensured the stable operation of the equipment, but also provided convenience for the customer's later operation and maintenance.

It is worth mentioning that the ring die animal feed pellet machine equipped on this chicken animal feed production line not only meets the conventional feed pelletizing needs, but also has a number of enhanced functions. For example, the machine has a built-in automatic steam regulation device, which can automatically adjust the steam volume according to the real-time monitored material temperature, making the conditioning process more efficient.

In response to the problems of spindle overload and material blockage that may occur in the large-scale continuous pelleting process, the feed pellet mill is also specially designed with spindle speed monitoring, material blockage alarm and automatic lubrication system, which effectively extends the service life of the equipment and reduces the downtime for maintenance.

Project Status

Since the broiler chicken feed mill in Zimbabwe project was officially put into production in May 2018, the chicken feed factory has been running smoothly and stably for many years. Customers have verified the high output and high adaptability of this production line in actual operation.

Since the nutrition of self-produced feed is more balanced, the cost is controllable and the supply is stable, it has not only completely got rid of the uncertainty of relying on the supply of finished feed in the past, but also brought additional considerable side income by processing or directly supplying feed to surrounding small and medium-sized farmers.

According to customer feedback, since the production was put into production, the annual profit level of the entire poultry feed production line has doubled than expected, and the number of employees has increased from the initial 5 to more than a dozen, forming a benign industrial chain closed loop of breeding-feed-sales.

Under the current macroeconomic environment in Zimbabwe, the market prospects for feed processing, especially broiler feed production, are still broad. Although limited by macro factors such as raw material price fluctuations and foreign exchange tensions, as the per capita consumption of poultry in southern Africa continues to grow, farmers like our customers with integrated feed processing capabilities will have more competitive advantages, and may even enter the markets of neighboring countries in the future.

Many industry insiders predict that the scale of broiler farming in Zimbabwe will continue to expand in the next 5 to 10 years, which also means that the demand for high-quality compound feed will only increase. Therefore, a chicken feed production line like this one with a daily output of 3-5 tons, full automation, and a high level of intelligence will have greater room for promotion and replication in Zimbabwe and surrounding areas.

Looking to the future, the customer has made it clear that on the basis of the stable operation of the existing plant, it will consider further expansion by 2025, increasing the daily production capacity to more than 10 tons, and continue to cooperate with RICHI Machinery to introduce more efficient large-capacity pelletizing machines and fully automatic packaging and palletizing lines, and gradually build it into a well-known local broiler feed supply demonstration enterprise.
