Saudi Arabia 15-16T/H Poultry and Cattle Feed Plant Project

OVERVIEW

In the ever-shifting landscape of the Middle East's agribusiness sector, Saudi Arabia has emerged as a key player in transforming its domestic livestock and poultry industry. As the Kingdom pivots away from traditional oil dependency and intensifies its efforts to achieve food security and self-sufficiency, a new generation of entrepreneurs is stepping forward to bridge the supply chain gaps that have historically hampered agricultural productivity.

In early 2018, one such visionary—a businessman from eastern Saudi Arabia with longstanding roots in agricultural investments—embarked on an ambitious plan: to build a large-scale, fully automated animal feed production line that could simultaneously cater to the dietary requirements of poultry and cattle. With the growing demand for high-quality meat and the rising cost of imported feed, his vision was both timely and strategic.

The Strategic Split: A Dual-Function Facility for Cattle and Poultry

The poultry and cattle feed plant in Saudi Arabia project was intentionally designed to support two distinct production lines within a single facility. One portion of the plant, with a production capacity of 5-6 tons per hour, was dedicated to cattle feed. The other, boasting a capacity of 10 tons per hour, was focused on chicken feed. This dual configuration allowed the investor to respond to multiple market needs under one roof.

This was not a randomly chosen split. The poultry industry in Saudi Arabia, by 2018, had already become the dominant segment in the feed market, driven by the Kingdom's dietary preferences and religious norms. Poultry products represented a core component of daily meals, and local production was booming. At the same time, beef consumption was on the rise, with increasing demand for quality cattle feed to support both meat and dairy operations.

By producing both mash and pelleted feeds ranging from 1mm to 8mm in size, the facility was set up to accommodate every feeding phase—from starter diets for broilers to high-fiber feed for mature cattle. This production flexibility offered the investor both economic and operational resilience.

A Feed Formula Rooted in Scientific Nutrition and Local Conditions

Saudi Arabia's harsh climate and limited arable land have long challenged conventional crop production. However, with increased investments in forage cultivation and the strategic use of imports, feed manufacturers now have a broader raw material base. The client's feed formula smartly reflects this reality.

One of the standout features of the formulation is the inclusion of lucerne (alfalfa), which makes up 33% of the total cattle feed mix. Known for its high protein content, excellent digestibility, and rich mineral profile, lucerne is particularly well-suited for ruminants. Its palatability ensures higher intake, while its fiber aids in digestion—critical in regions where forage quality often fluctuates.

For poultry feed, traditional ingredients like corn, soybean meal, and wheat bran formed the bulk of the nutritional matrix. These were either locally grown or imported, depending on seasonal availability and global market prices. The client's approach to raw material sourcing demonstrated not only his familiarity with global supply chain dynamics but also a firm grasp of animal nutrition principles.

Tailored Processing: Engineering Feed Technology for Saudi Realities

The layout and technology of poultry and cattle feed plant in Saudi Arabia were a direct response to the client's ambition for efficiency, environmental compliance, and future scalability. The poultry cattle feed mill was constructed within a 16m x 8m x 12m (LWH) workshop, and the spatial constraints were addressed through modular engineering and centralized equipment placement.

Installation began shortly after the deal was finalized, and over the span of 60 days, the plant took shape under the hands-on guidance of four senior engineers dispatched by RICHI. The workflow was streamlined into three primary zones—pre-cleaning and grinding, mixing and batching, and pelleting and packing. Each zone operated under a fully enclosed system equipped with dust control technology to mitigate air pollution and ensure worker safety.

Lucerne and other forages were processed using a high-capacity SFSP6660a feed hammer mill tailored for fibrous raw materials, while corn and soybean meal were ground using the SFSP6680 grinder, optimized for high throughput and uniform particle size. Both grinders fed into SLHY2.5L horizontal ribbon mixers, configured separately for poultry and cattle feed to prevent cross-contamination.

Precision batching was controlled via the PLC1.0A scale system, integrating automated ingredient dosing with minimal operator intervention. Pelletization was handled by SZLH420 animal feed pellet machine for poultry and CZLH520 pellet machine—designed specifically for fibrous and high-protein cattle feed. The CZLH520 grass pellet machine could handle up to 6 tons per hour of lucerne-heavy formulations, ensuring pellet integrity and nutritional retention.

For poultry starters, the crumbled feed was produced through the SSLG15150 pellet crumbler, then screened by SFJH1252C rotary screener to guarantee consistent sizing. The final product—whether mash or pellet—was cooled, weighed, and packed by the DCS-50 automatic packing system, allowing for swift movement to distribution or storage.

Supporting this entire animal feed production line was a robust 1.0T/0.7Mpa boiler system and a SYTZ100 heating oil tank, ensuring stable steam supply for conditioning—especially vital for pellet quality. Every component was chosen not only for its technical compatibility but for its ability to perform reliably in Saudi Arabia's high-temperature, low-humidity environment.

A Market Primed for Domestic Feed Production

The timing of this poultry and cattle feed plant in Saudi Arabia project couldn't have been better. The Saudi animal feed market, valued at over US$2.48 billion in 2019, was on a trajectory to surpass US$3.45 billion by 2025. Poultry feed alone had taken the lead among all feed types, thanks in part to import restrictions on other proteins and a cultural preference for chicken.

COVID-19 had momentarily shaken the market, disrupting restaurant demand and creating logistic bottlenecks. Yet, these disruptions had a silver lining—they pushed consumers toward home-based meat consumption, increasing demand for consistent and safe animal products. At the same time, supply chain vulnerabilities underscored the dangers of over-reliance on imported feed, further validating the client's investment decision.

By 2021, the government launched support programs to stimulate local feed production, which included subsidies on animal feed machinery imports and easier access to land and utilities for agri-projects. The investor's early move positioned him as a forerunner—his feed mill became not only a commercial venture but a case study in economic resilience and strategic foresight.

Commercial Ambitions Backed by Industrial Excellence

This 15-16t/h poultry and cattle feed plant in Saudi Arabia was never meant to be a simple farming auxiliary. The investor’s long-term plan involved scaling the operation to serve third-party farms and retail customers across the eastern and central provinces. With a processing capacity large enough to meet the needs of dozens of medium-sized poultry farms and several commercial cattle operations, the plant quickly became a regional hub for high-quality feed.

Initially, 60% of the production was used internally for the client's vertically integrated poultry and cattle operations. The rest was sold under a newly developed brand, focusing on "scientific nutrition, traceability, and local formulation"—qualities that resonated strongly with Saudi farmers, many of whom had grown skeptical of imported feed's freshness and relevance to desert-raised animals.

The ability of poultry and cattle feed plant in Saudi Arabia to manufacture pellets in the 1–8mm range also gave it the flexibility to cater to various livestock age groups and species, allowing for product diversification without significant cost additions.

Lessons from the Desert: Engineering for Resilience

The construction and operation of the 15-16t/h poultry and cattle feed plant in Saudi Arabia underscore a key lesson for agribusiness in arid environments: success requires more than just capital—it demands local adaptation, technical excellence, and an ability to anticipate market transitions.

This cattle poultry feed production line project was more than an investment in machines—it was an investment in Saudi Arabia’s agricultural future. By using modular layout principles, automated dosing, dual-line functionality, and localized raw material strategies, the plant managed to minimize waste, improve feed quality, and reduce dependency on imported feed.

Moreover, the Saudi Arabia poultry cattle feed production line project served as a catalyst for other investors in the region. As news of its success spread, it inspired similar mid-to-large-scale feed operations to explore diversification beyond poultry into ruminants, aquaculture, and even pet food—a sign that the Kingdom's feed industry is moving toward a more mature, multifaceted landscape.

Start your poultry and cattle feed plant in Saudi Arabia

As the Saudi feed market continues to expand, the client has already started exploring expansion options—potentially doubling the chicken feed production line's capacity and adding an on-site raw material storage unit to improve procurement logistics. There's also a plan to digitize more of the operational workflow, using real-time production analytics to fine-tune formulations and forecast ingredient needs.

For now, though, the animal feed mill plant stands as one of the most technically advanced, strategically planned, and economically impactful feed processing facilities in the region. Its success is a testament to what can be achieved when local needs are met with global knowledge—and when ambition is tempered with technical rigor.

In a country rapidly redefining its agricultural boundaries, this 15-16t/h poultry and cattle feed plant in Saudi Arabia is not just producing feed—it's feeding a movement.
