New Zealand has a growing poultry industry, with feed mills supplying broiler and layer farms across the South Island. The feed plant we worked with produces approximately 150,000 tons of poultry feed annually and had been struggling with low pellet density.
Low-density pellets were causing increased feed dust, reduced bird intake, and higher transport costs. The plant manager wanted a pellet mill that could produce high-density pellets without increasing fines.

Before contacting us, the plant had evaluated pellet mills from Australian and European manufacturers. The Australian equipment was adequate but expensive. European mills had long lead times.
A feed industry consultant who had visited RICHI's factory in Jiaozuo recommended our SZLH420 for its high-density formation capability. The plant already had a complete upstream system. What they needed was a poultry pellet mill with high density pellet formation.
After a detailed review of their requirements, we recommended the SZLH420 ring die feed pellet mill with a 110kW main motor, equipped with high-compression dies and an extended conditioner.

The plant was producing pellets with a density of 550-600 g/l. The SZLH420 feed pellet machine, with optimized compression ratios and conditioning, produces pellets with 650-700 g/l density.

The extended conditioner (2.5 meters) provides 25-30 seconds retention time.
We spoke with the plant manager about 18 months after delivery:
"This poultry pellet mill with high density pellet formation has solved our dust problem. Our pellet density increased from 580 g/l to 680 g/l. Transport costs are down 15%, and broiler farms report less dust in the feeders.
The mill runs about 16 hours per day, 6 days per week. We have put about 10,000 hours on it. The high-compression dies wear faster than standard dies—1,200 hours for the 3.5mm die—but the benefits outweigh the cost.
Beyond poultry, the mill produces high-density pig and cattle feed.
The SZLH420 was shipped from Qingdao to the Port of Lyttelton (Christchurch)—about 25 days at sea. Total transit time was about 33 days.
