Their operations included both a massive sugarcane mill (producing sugar and ethanol) and a large-scale poultry farming division.
The mill generated enormous quantities of vinasse, a liquid byproduct of ethanol distillation, while the poultry farms produced tons of manure. Traditionally, vinasse was applied raw to sugarcane fields, but this practice was increasingly criticized for soil salinization and groundwater contamination risks.
The conglomerate’s sustainability directors envisioned an innovative, integrated solution: co-processing the poultry manure with filtered vinasse solids to create a high-value, pelletized organic fertilizer for the booming Brazilian soybean and corn sector. The critical technological bottleneck was the efficient dehydration of this blended, high-moisture feedstock.
This led to the search for a high-capacity organic fertilizer dryer machine. The strategic decision was made to invest in two large organic fertilizer dryers as the core of a new, dedicated processing plant. This dual-unit approach was essential to handle the colossal volume of material and ensure continuous, large-scale production to meet the demands of commodity crop farmers.

Given the sheer scale of both vinasse and manure production, a single dryer, even a large one, could not achieve the targeted annual output of hundreds of thousands of tons of fertilizer.
Purchasing two identical organic fertilizer dryer machines was a calculated move to guarantee production redundancy (minimizing downtime risk) and to achieve the economies of scale necessary to make the fertilizer price-competitive with mineral alternatives in the Brazilian market. These rotary dryers for organic fertilizer were the heart of their new circular economy venture, representing a major capital investment in sustainable agribusiness.
The raw material was a homogenous blend of decanted vinasse solids (very high moisture) and dried poultry manure (used as a drying aid and nutrient booster), resulting in a consistent paste with about 68-72% moisture.
The drying intent was massive volume reduction and product stabilization for pelletizing. The process needed to be extremely robust, energy-efficient, and capable of delivering a uniformly dried powder at a moisture content of 12-14%, perfect for high-volume pellet mill operation.
