A concentrate that complements grazing

The initial product is an adult beef-cattle supplement made from cereals, protein meal and milling by-products. Farms provide the forage component under their feeding programmes. This positioning suits a grain-oriented ring die pellet mill processing dry meal and controlled liquid additions.

The proposed machinery trial uses 46% maize meal, 18% soybean meal, 20% rice bran, 10% wheat middlings, 3% cane molasses and 3% mineral-and-vitamin blend, weighed before steam conditioning. These proportions define the application trial; the mill's nutritionist approves the commercial formula using ingredient analyses and the intended feeding rate.

Imported yellow maize forms part of Costa Rica's feed supply. Rice bran, locally traded as semolina, and wheat middlings, often called acemite, provide additional purchasing options. The mill needs their specifications by lot: rice bran can vary in residual oil, fibre and ash, while soybean meal requires checks for protein and moisture.

Dairy products use their own nutrient specifications and batch identification. The same press can serve both markets, but each formula needs a recorded operating setting and separate product approval.

Molasses and steam have different jobs

The existing grinder prepares the cereal fraction. A starting mean particle-size target of approximately 2–3 mm provides a basis for trials, with the coarse and fine fractions measured separately. The dry ingredient blend is initially specified at 10–12% moisture, before molasses and conditioning steam are added.

Molasses is weighed into the mixer after dry blending. Its distribution matters: concentrated wet patches can form lumps before the feeder. Checking the pump delivery, mixing sequence and discharge samples helps the mill establish a repeatable batch. Incoming molasses solids and moisture also enter the water balance.

Steam supplies heat and moisture during conditioning. A separator, pressure regulation and functioning condensate traps are included in the interface review. Available steam flow must be checked while the rest of the factory is operating. The commissioning record links mash moisture, conditioner discharge temperature, feeder setting and main-motor load.

The product brief specifies an 8 mm pellet, approximately 12–20 mm long, for adult cattle. The ring die determines diameter; the cutter controls length. Effective die-hole length is selected through formula trials, including the proposed rice-bran and molasses levels. A diameter change requires another die.

Size the press against cooled product

The working target is 3 t/h of accepted pellets after cooling and screening. The SZLH320 feed pellet machine provides a published reference range of 3–4 t/h, making it a candidate for this requirement. Formula trials and checks on the existing cooler determine the usable production rate.

At 3 t/h, seven net production hours give 21 tonnes daily. A schedule of 220 pellet-production days would provide 4,620 tonnes annually. Changeovers, cleaning and maintenance need additional scheduled time. The mash route remains available for orders that do not require pelleting.

A provisional finished-moisture ceiling of 13% is used for acceptance trials, subject to the product's storage specification. The cooler must handle the actual heat and water load at site conditions. If the cooler cannot meet the agreed moisture and temperature together, conditioning and cooling capacity must be reassessed before the production rate is approved.

A larger press would require corresponding downstream capacity. Keeping the initial target within the existing plant's demonstrated handling capability gives the owner a more useful basis for investment.

A 60 Hz installation with accessible service points

Costa Rica uses a 60 Hz electrical system. Motor voltage is confirmed from the site's distribution board, and the motor-and-gearbox package must maintain the required die and conditioner speeds in 60 Hz service. Starting arrangements and available transformer capacity are checked with the complete auxiliary load list.

The layout review covers the mixed-meal buffer bin, feeder inlet, cooler connection and maintenance clearances. Operators need space to remove the die and service the rollers without dismantling adjacent conveyors. Buffer-bin level signals coordinate the batch mixer with the continuously fed press.

The staffing basis is one pelleting operator working with the mill's existing batching and packing staff. Training concentrates on startup sequence, steam checks, roller adjustment, isolation and recording formula settings. A recommended spare-parts package includes the agreed die, roller shells and model-specific fasteners.

A proposed delivery route is Qingdao Port to Puerto Caldera, followed by road transport to Alajuela. Packing follows the approved equipment dimensions. Foundation, electrical and connection drawings should reach the buyer before dispatch so the mill can prepare the installation independently of the freight schedule.

Repeat orders need repeatable settings

Commissioning compares accepted pellet output, handling fines, dimensions and durability under a defined test method. Total circuit electricity is recorded alongside production time. The mill also checks cooled product through its usual bagging and warehouse routine, including signs of condensation or softening.

On a switch between beef and dairy products, the operator records the formula code, ingredient lots, die, steam setting and screened returns. Carryover control follows the mill's feed-quality procedure. Returning to a formula then starts from a documented setting.
