Why the Dairy Cooperative Upgraded Its Feed Production

The cooperative already had basic feed handling facilities, including ingredient storage, a small mixer machine, and material preparation equipment. The missing stage was pelletizing. Loose concentrate mixtures were more difficult to handle, generated more dust, and could separate during transportation and storage.

The farm wanted a feed pellet mill that could help with several practical issues:

• Produce consistent concentrate feed pellets for dairy cows.
• Reduce dependence on external suppliers for part of the ration.
• Improve feed handling efficiency inside the farm.
• Adjust formulas according to milk production stage and ingredient availability.

The objective was not to manufacture commercial feed for the market. The machine was selected for internal dairy feed production, with occasional small-batch supply to nearby farms if additional capacity was available.

Equipment Selection: SZLH350 Cow Feed Pellet Machine

After reviewing the farm’s daily feed demand and production expectations, the SZLH350 ring die pellet machine was selected. Compared with large commercial feed mill equipment, this model better matched the cooperative’s requirement for flexible on-farm production.

Feed Formula Adapted to Israeli Dairy Conditions

Israeli dairy farms commonly rely on carefully balanced rations combining forage and concentrate ingredients. The cattle feed pellet machine in this project was designed for the concentrate portion rather than replacing the farm’s complete forage management system.

The cooperative’s pellet formula mainly included:

• Corn and barley as energy sources.
• Wheat bran for additional fiber and formulation adjustment.
• Soybean meal and protein ingredients to support milk production.
• Mineral and vitamin premixes for nutritional balance.
• Molasses in selected formulas to improve binding and palatability.

Long-fiber materials such as silage and hay remained part of the feeding program and were managed separately. The pellet machine focused on producing uniform concentrate pellets that could be mixed with forage during feeding.

The final pellet diameter was mainly controlled around 4–6 mm. This size provides good handling characteristics while allowing cows to consume the feed effectively. For certain formulas, larger 6–8 mm pellets could also be produced by changing the die configuration.

Integration with the Existing Farm Feed System

The project was designed around the cooperative’s existing facilities. There was no requirement for a new large workshop or a complete automated feed plant.

The production flow was arranged as follows:

1. Prepared grain ingredients were ground and stored before mixing.
2. The mixer combined grains, protein sources, minerals, and additives according to the ration formula.
3. The mixed material entered the conditioner before pelletizing.
4. The SZLH350 feed pellet machine produced stable concentrate pellets for daily dairy feeding.

This configuration allowed the cooperative to improve feed preparation while maintaining the operating habits of its existing farm team.

Changes After Installing the Pellet Machine

After commissioning, the biggest improvement was not simply production volume, but feed consistency. Operators found that pelletized concentrate was easier to transport around the farm and created less separation compared with loose mixed feed.

• More uniform feed portions during daily distribution.
• Reduced dust during handling and storage.
• Better control over ingredient ratios between different batches.
• Greater flexibility when adjusting feed formulas.

The cooperative also gained more independence during periods when commercial feed prices fluctuated. Instead of relying completely on purchased pellets, the farm could produce part of its own concentrate according to current ingredient costs.

Delivery and Installation Support

The RICHI SZLH350 animal cow food making machine was transported from China to Israel by sea freight. The equipment arrived through an Israeli port before being delivered by truck to the dairy cooperative in northern Israel.

Before installation, technical documents and layout information were prepared according to the farm’s existing building conditions. Support focused on practical operation points, including die replacement, moisture adjustment, feeding control, and routine maintenance.
