South Korean Pet Products Plant Produces First 2 T/H Batch of Recycled Paper Cat Litter

The first commercial-scale batch has been produced at a new 2 t/h recycled paper cat litter production line in South Korea, moving the RICHI-supplied project from equipment commissioning into product optimization.

The customer is an established pet supplies manufacturer developing a lightweight litter range from recovered paper fiber rather than entering the market as a general recycling company.

Its objective is clear: turn selected waste paper and cellulose fiber into a packaged pet-care product with controlled granule size, low loose-fiber content and a consistent appearance.

The first production runs have now confirmed the complete mechanical route.

From Recovered Paper to a Retail Product

Incoming paper cannot move directly from a recycling bale into the cat litter pellet machine.

The customer's preparation section first removes unsuitable contaminants before the selected paper is shredded and processed into a more uniform fiber.

Moisture then needs to be controlled before formulation and pellet formation.

This preparation has become especially important because recycled paper is not as physically uniform as a purchased standardized powder.

Changes in fiber length, paper grade and retained moisture can all influence feeding.

The plant therefore uses buffer handling and controlled mixing before the prepared material reaches the forming section.

First Trial Focuses on 4–6mm Paper Litter

The initial commercial product is a larger cylindrical paper litter in the approximately 4–6 mm range.

That specification differs visibly from the finer 2–3 mm tofu cat litter commonly targeted by plant-fiber litter producers.

The South Korean company selected the larger paper granule for its own product positioning and packaging concept.

Drying Is Being Adjusted Around Paper Fiber

The current commissioning work is not centered only on the pelletizer.

Paper-based granules need a stable final condition before they are packaged.

If too much water remains, storage becomes more difficult. Excessive drying, however, can also change the physical behavior of the granule.

RICHI Machinery and the customer's production team are therefore adjusting drying residence conditions against the actual recycled-fiber formulation rather than copying tofu cat litter settings.

New Line Gives the Customer a Second Pet Litter Technology Route

The project expands the manufacturer's product range into recycled paper cat litter manufacturing.

It also gives the company a production route very different from bentonite litter or tofu litter.

As commissioning continues, additional work will focus on fines control, product length and packaging consistency.

The first 2 t/h batch does not mark the end of optimization, but it confirms that the South Korean customer can now take recovered paper through preparation, forming, drying, screening and packing inside one dedicated paper cat litter production line.
