RICHI Machinery Signs New Broiler Feed Pellet Plant Project in Nigeria

Recently, we signed a new broiler feed pellet plant project in Nigeria, marking a significant expansion of our presence in West Africa’s poultry industry. The client, a rapidly growing poultry integrator operating across multiple states, is focused on producing high-quality broiler chickens for domestic consumption and regional export.

Nigeria’s poultry sector has witnessed remarkable growth in recent years, fueled by increasing population demand and government support for local feed production. The client identified a critical need to produce consistent, nutritionally balanced broiler feed in-house to maintain flock health, improve growth rates, and optimize feed conversion ratios (FCR). Prior to this project, the client relied on imported feed, which often faced supply inconsistencies and high logistics costs.

The 5 tons production capacity chicken feed production line is designed to process corn, soybean meal, wheat bran, fish meal, and mineral-vitamin premixes, blended into a broiler feed formulation containing approximately 22% protein and 5% fat, suitable for starter, grower, and finisher phases. By establishing an in-house feed production facility, the client aims to control raw material quality, adjust formulas according to seasonal changes, and reduce dependency on imported feed, ultimately boosting profitability and product quality.

Process Design and Customization

The broiler feed pellet plant has been meticulously designed to meet the client’s unique requirements. Given Nigeria’s tropical climate, power fluctuations, and the client’s operational needs, RICHI Machinery implemented a robust and flexible production process emphasizing efficiency, hygiene, and adaptability.

The plant utilizes a newly constructed feed processing facility with dedicated zones for raw material storage, mixing, pelleting, drying, cooling, screening, and packaging. Specific process highlights include:

• Raw Material Handling and Grinding: Corn, soybean meal, and other ingredients are ground in hammer mills to achieve uniform particle size, which is critical for pellet consistency and digestibility.
• Mixing: Twin-shaft mixers ensure homogenous blending of protein sources, grains, and micronutrients. Accurate weight dosing systems allow precise formula adjustments.
• Pelleting: Ring die feed pellet machine, optimized for broiler feed, produce durable pellets ranging from 3 mm to 6 mm. The pelletizer is equipped with adjustable temperature and moisture controls to retain nutrient content and improve pellet durability.
• Drying and Cooling: Rotary drum dryers lower pellet moisture to approximately 12%, followed by cooling units that stabilize the feed for storage and transportation.
• Screening and Packaging: Vibrating screens remove fines, and automatic packaging machines allow bag sizes from 10 to 50 kg for flexible distribution.

RICHI Machinery also incorporated dust extraction and environmental protection systems, ensuring the facility complies with Nigerian environmental regulations and maintains a clean, safe workspace for operators.

Equipment Configuration and Production Capacity

For this 5 t/h broiler feed pellet plant, RICHI Machinery supplied:

• High-capacity hammer mills for raw material grinding
• Twin-shaft and single-shaft mixers for uniform blending
• Ring die pellet machines tailored to broiler feed characteristics

The equipment operates on 415V three-phase electricity, equipped with PLC-based automation for precise control over feed formulation, moisture content, and production rate. The design allows future capacity expansion and formula adjustments to accommodate different broiler growth stages.
