Botswana 5 T/H Goat Feed Plant Enters Commissioning with Pellets and Concentrate Feed Program

Loaded commissioning has begun on a 5 t/h goat feed production plant in Botswana developed for a feed manufacturer serving commercial and semi-commercial livestock producers.

The project was designed specifically around goat feeding rather than simply relabeling a cattle feed production line. Product size, formula flexibility and the balance between fibrous and concentrate ingredients were reviewed around the customer's intended market.

The Plant Will Make Both Complete Pellets and Concentrate Products

One reference complete-feed formulation uses approximately 30–40% cereal ingredients, 15–25% bran or milling co-products, 15–25% protein ingredients, 10–20% prepared forage/fiber ingredients, with molasses, minerals, salt and premix making up the remainder.

A concentrate product uses a different formula because the farmer combines it with forage at feeding.

The plant therefore needs production flexibility rather than one fixed recipe.

The customer's nutritionist will finalize formulas according to animal class and local ingredient analysis.

Commissioning Is Following Five Production Checks

1. Grinding: whole grains are being checked for target particle distribution without over-grinding already fine ingredients.
2. Batching: scale accuracy and ingredient discharge are being confirmed across both large and small inclusion levels.
3. Mixing: dry uniformity and molasses distribution are being observed.
4. Pelletizing: approximately 4–6 mm goat pellets are being tested under representative formulas.
5. Cooling and screening: pellet temperature, fines and saleable product flow are being monitored before bagging.

The 5 t/h rating represents the main complete-feed operating class. Concentrate, meal and different pellet formulas can run at different practical rates.

The First Adjustment Was Not at the Pellet Mill

During early material circulation, the engineering team paid particular attention to the discharge of lighter fibrous ingredients.

Changing upstream feeding consistency can be more effective than repeatedly adjusting goat feed pellet making machine settings when the real problem begins in the storage bin.

Finished products are planned mainly for 25–50 kg agricultural bags.

The customer also has room to introduce additional sheep or mixed-ruminant SKUs later without rebuilding the central batching and mixing system.
