The client is an agricultural cooperative managing around 4,000 hectares of farmland, mainly cultivating wheat and barley. Each harvest season, they produce approximately 5,000 tons of wheat straw, stored in bales.
Initially, the straw was sold cheaply to nearby livestock farms, but the prices were unstable, and the logistics costs were high. Seeking a more profitable and sustainable alternative, the cooperative explored wheat straw pelletizing technology to convert their residue into clean energy fuel.
They decided to purchase the MZLH420 wheat straw pellet machine as a standalone unit, not part of a large-scale line. The reason was simple: they wanted to start small, test the market for biomass pellets, and later expand into a complete biomass pellet production line once profitability was proven.
The single unit would allow them to process baled wheat straw (after crushing and drying) into standardized fuel pellets, both for their farm’s boilers and for sale to regional distributors.
Romania’s agricultural sector provides abundant wheat straw, typically baled after threshing. The client owns both a bale breaker and a grass crusher, which shred straw into smaller, fibrous particles suitable for pelletizing. Because the straw’s natural moisture content after field collection ranges between 18%–25%, they use a rotary drum dryer to reduce the moisture to around 12% before pelletization.
The MZLH420 wheat straw pellet machine, equipped with a 90kW main motor, provides a production capacity of 1.0–1.2 tons per hour. This throughput is ideal for their small-scale operation, ensuring stable production without overloading the machine.
The cooperative selected the MZLH420 model after consulting with RICHI’s technical engineers. The model’s heavy-duty ring die structure, stable transmission system, and enhanced feeding design make it suitable for fibrous materials like wheat straw. The ring die inner diameter of 420mm and a precision-engineered roller assembly ensure continuous, uniform pellet formation.
This model is optimized for agricultural waste, including corn stalks, barley straw, rice husks, sunflower shells, and grass residues, providing flexibility for future diversification.
The wheat straw pellet machine in Romania plays a crucial role in converting bulky, low-density agricultural residues into compact, high-energy-density fuel pellets. These pellets are now used to heat farmhouses, greenhouses, and local schools in nearby villages, replacing firewood and coal. Additionally, a portion of the production is exported to Germany and Austria, where demand for sustainable biomass fuel remains high.

After final inspection, it was shipped by sea to Romania via the Constanța Port, the country’s main maritime gateway on the Black Sea.
