In 2025, a mid-sized livestock supply business in Ukraine approached RICHI Machinery seeking a reliable solution for processing straw and alfalfa bales. Ukraine has vast agricultural output, producing millions of tons of cereal straw, alfalfa, and other agricultural residues annually. Our client primarily needed to process wheat and barley straw bales along with alfalfa hay bales. These bales varied in diameter from 1.5 to 2 meters, were tightly packed, and occasionally contained high moisture content after harvest.
The client required a robust machine to handle both round and square bales efficiently, reducing the straw to uniform 20–30 mm pieces suitable for animal bedding. By standardizing the particle size, they could ensure better absorption, reduce ammonia emission in pig houses, and improve the comfort and health of poultry.
After a detailed site survey and technical consultation, the client selected the RICHI YPPK-2800 model. This high-capacity, heavy-duty straw chopper met the requirement for processing large-diameter bales while providing consistent output size.

The YPPK-2800 crusher machine was preferred for its larger capacity and ability to handle the heaviest bales without jamming. The client purchased two units to ensure uninterrupted production during maintenance cycles.
The straw chopper is designed for coarse crushing of large-diameter bales and bulk straw, including alfalfa, wheat, barley, and oat straw. The material enters the crushing chamber via an optional chain feeding conveyor, where the heavy-duty hammer mill equipped with 48 hardened manganese steel hammers reduces the straw to the desired particle size of 20–30 mm.
Inside the crushing chamber, damping plates enhance material grip, improving crushing efficiency. The thickened drive chain extends equipment life, and the reinforced heavy-duty frame ensures durability and easy mobility. The gear-driven rotary feed system allows efficient feeding without dead zones, handling wet or dry straw of various lengths and densities.
