The client is a regional rice miller located near Ibagué, processing around 60–80 tons of paddy daily during peak harvest periods. The motivation behind purchasing a single rice husk pellet granulator machine included several key considerations:
By starting with a single rice husk pellet machine, the client could test operational performance, evaluate fuel quality, and gradually scale up production without overcommitting resources.
The primary feedstock for this project is 100% rice husks, collected directly from the milling process. Occasionally, small amounts of dry sawdust or sugarcane bagasse (less than 5%) are mixed to slightly increase density, but the material is overwhelmingly rice husks. The moisture content is naturally around 10–12%, making the husks suitable for direct pelletization without extensive pre-drying.
For this project, the client decided on a pellet diameter of 8 mm, which provides an optimal balance of density, burn efficiency, and market acceptability. These pellets are primarily intended for fuel use, supplying heat for rice drying processes, though they are also compatible with local small-scale biomass boilers for other industrial purposes.

With this setup, the client can produce approximately 10–12 tons of pellets per day, perfectly matching the daily rice husk output from their milling operations and providing sufficient material for their internal fuel requirements and local sales.
Given Colombia’s extensive coastline along the Caribbean and the Pacific, the most efficient shipping method was sea freight from China to Port of Cartagena, a major port serving northern Colombia. From Cartagena, the machine was transported by truck to the milling facility near Ibagué.
