Our client is a major biomass processing and export company operating a centralized plant in Riau, Sumatra. They aggregate PKS from numerous surrounding palm oil mills. Historically, they exported loose, bulk PKS. To increase energy density, reduce shipping costs, and meet the precise specifications of Japanese and Korean power utilities (their target clients), they invested in a large-scale pelleting line.
Their new line included heavy-duty crushers, dryers, and specialized biomass pellet mills with hardened dies to handle the extremely abrasive PKS. However, the pellets exiting these mills presented a new challenge: they were not only hot (80-90°C) but also incredibly hard and abrasive, essentially like small, hot pieces of nutshell.
Their initial cooling method—using a long, open, steel drag conveyor—was causing severe wear on the conveyor flights and was ineffective, leaving pellets too hot for immediate bulk storage in containers, risking off-gassing and moisture condensation during sea transport.
To achieve the consistent, cool product required for long-distance export and to protect their downstream equipment, they needed to purchase a single, heavy-duty PKS pellet cooler. This was a strategic new addition to their export-grade production line, a necessary investment to upgrade their product from processed bulk waste to a premium, specification-grade industrial fuel.
