Fertilizer Pellet Machine in Finland

A fertilizer processor in Southwest Finland uses one FZLH420 pellet machine to produce 5 mm pellets from stabilized pig manure, poultry litter and prepared cereal residues.

Fertilizer Pellet Machine in Finland

OVERVIEW

A regional fertilizer processor in Southwest Finland selected one FZLH420 Fertilizer Pellet Machine in Finland to replace a small forming stage with a commercial ring-die unit. The plant handles stabilized pig-manure solids, poultry-litter compost and prepared cereal residues, then produces compact organic fertilizer pellets for arable farms, horticultural users and agricultural distributors.

The customer already had manure receiving, composting, screening, crushing, mixing, moisture adjustment, cooling and packing equipment, so the project remained a standalone pelletizing retrofit. The FZLH420 was sized for about 6–8 T/H on properly prepared fertilizer, while the main commercial product is set at 5 mm for field spreading and bagged distribution.

The Product Specification Was Set Before the Machine Duty

The processor did not select pellet diameter simply because the ring die can make several sizes. For commercial organic fertilizer, spreader compatibility, bulk handling, breakage and customer expectations matter more than using the largest possible hole. A 5 mm product gives the plant a practical field-fertilizer format while keeping the project inside the widely used 4–6 mm range for pelletized organic fertilizers.

This distinction also affects capacity planning. A smaller die hole can create more compression resistance than a larger one, so the plant does not assume that every 5 mm manure-based formula will stay at the upper end of the 6–8 T/H reference range. Throughput is logged by formulation, moisture, particle condition and die loading, with production scheduling built around the actual fertilizer grade being run.

The FZLH420 fertilizer granulator machine combines a 90 kW main drive with a 3 kW anti-bridging feeder and 1.5 kW forced feeder. That feeding arrangement is useful when mature fertilizer has low bulk density or tends to compact above the die chamber. It still requires properly screened and reduced material, because the feeder is not intended to pull long straw, wet manure or large compost lumps directly into the press.

The 6–8 T/H figure belongs to the forming stage, not to fresh-manure intake or guaranteed finished-plant output. Compost maturation, drying when needed, mixing, cooling, screening and packing all run under their own limits. For this customer, the pelletizer works in scheduled campaigns after enough mature fertilizer has accumulated, which is more realistic than running a regional manure plant at full ring-die capacity every hour.

Pig-Manure Solids and Cereal Residues Follow Separate Preparation Routes

Southwest Finland is a credible setting for this raw-material system because the region has a substantial pig sector and strong cereal production. Pig manure enters the project as collected solids or other suitably handled manure material, while barley and oat residues provide seasonal carbon-rich material. Poultry litter can be accepted as another controlled stream when its nutrient and bedding characteristics fit the intended product.

Fresh manure is not routed from farm delivery straight to the pelletizer. Biological stabilization comes first, using controlled composting or another compliant treatment route appropriate to the material and product category. Straw may support structure and carbon balance during preparation, but it is not assigned a fixed percentage or described as an automatic binder because fibre content and nutrient dilution vary from batch to batch.

After stabilization, mature material is screened and oversized pieces are reduced before mixing. Clean untreated sawdust can be used when a batch needs additional dry carbon, but woody material is controlled because excessive inclusion can lower nutrient concentration. The plant builds each commercial blend from material analysis and processing behaviour rather than one permanent pig-manure, straw and sawdust recipe.

Where the Fertilizer Pellet Machine in Finland Fits the Process

  1. Livestock-derived materials and agricultural residues are received and inspected.
  2. Fresh manure undergoes biological stabilization before fertilizer finishing.
  3. Mature material is screened, and coarse lumps or long fibres are reduced where required.
  4. Qualified components are proportioned and mixed to the intended fertilizer specification.
  5. Moisture and feeding behaviour are checked before the FZLH420.
  6. The ring-die machine forms the prepared mixture into 5 mm pellets.
  7. Warm pellets are cooled, screened and transferred to storage or packing.

The Organic Fertilizer Pellet Machine in Finland therefore sits near the end of the manufacturing route. It does not sanitize fresh manure, create nutrients or correct an unstable composting process. The customer uses the FZLH420 only after material condition is suitable for ring-die compression, which keeps biological treatment, formulation and mechanical densification as clearly separated production responsibilities.

Moisture is controlled from the behaviour of the mature mixture instead of one permanent 18–20% target. Excess water can lead to soft pellets and unstable feeding, while material that is too dry can create dust and higher compression resistance. Operators judge feeder stability, main-motor load, pellet surface and cooling performance together before adjusting upstream drying or controlled moisture addition.

Cooling is sized to the pelletizer's instantaneous flow rather than average daily production. Warm 5 mm pellets need enough residence time to lose process heat before they enter bins or bags, and screening removes loose fines after cooling. A persistent rise in fines is treated as a signal to inspect moisture, particle preparation, die condition or conveying rather than as a reason to keep recycling material indefinitely.

Why 5 mm Is More Credible Than a Default 10 mm Fertilizer Pellet

Commercial organic fertilizer pellets are commonly produced around 4–6 mm, and field-spreading research frequently evaluates 4 mm and 6 mm cylindrical granules. European commercial fertilizer products also commonly use 4–5 mm pellets. For that reason, this Finnish project uses 5 mm as its principal SKU instead of assuming that a 10 mm pellet is automatically better for mechanical spreading or commercial distribution.

The FZLH420 can physically produce larger diameters within its 4–12 mm machine range, but equipment capability and market specification are different questions. Eight, ten or twelve millimetres may be selected for a defined product or customer, yet those sizes need a real application reason. They should not be used as the default organic-fertilizer specification simply because a larger ring-die hole is available.

Diameter is also separate from agronomic performance. A 5 mm pellet does not automatically release nutrients at a certain rate, and a 10 mm pellet does not automatically last longer in soil. Nutrient availability depends on the feedstock, organic matrix, mineral forms, soil moisture, microbial activity and application conditions. Product claims therefore come from analysis and field evidence rather than pellet diameter alone.

Finnish Compliance, Winter Handling and Site Utilities

Whether a fertilizer can be marketed for conventional or organic farming in Finland depends on its ingredients, treatment route, contaminant limits, analytical results, labeling and the applicable fertilizer rules. The machine itself does not provide an organic approval. Finland's food authority also makes clear that suitability for organic production is assessed from product composition and the relevant regulatory conditions.

Winter handling receives separate attention because frozen manure compost or wet material stored outdoors can create feeding problems when brought into a warmer processing area. Mature fertilizer is kept covered and protected from snow and ground moisture, while condensation is monitored around storage and transfer points. Pellets are cooled fully before enclosed storage so residual heat does not add another moisture risk.

The 90 kW main motor is only one part of the electrical requirement. Anti-bridging, forced feeding, conveyors, crushing, cooling, screening and dust control add their own loads, so transformer capacity and motor starting are checked for simultaneous operation. For a Southwest Finland site, machinery can enter through a suitable Finnish port and continue inland without assigning a fixed shipping or customs period.

How the Processor Decides Whether More Capacity Is Needed

A second pelletizer is not the first response to higher sales. The plant first checks whether enough mature fertilizer can be prepared, whether the mixer can supply batches fast enough, and whether cooling, screening, packing and storage have reserve capacity. If material does not regularly wait ahead of the FZLH420, more installed ring-die capacity would add cost without increasing saleable tonnes.

For another buyer evaluating a Fertilizer Pellet Machine in Finland, RICHI Machinery would review manure type, collection form, stabilization route, mature-material moisture, straw or woody content, particle distribution, target fertilizer analysis, required pellet diameter, hourly demand, annual sales, mixer and cooler capacity, electrical supply and building dimensions before confirming the model and die specification.
