0.5–0.6 T/H Carp Feed Extruder Machine in Romania

OVERVIEW

Carp feed extruder machine in Romania was selected for a freshwater aquaculture feed producer that wanted to add extruded carp feed to its existing product range without building a completely new production line. The customer supplied feed to pond fish farms and small commercial aquaculture operations, where common carp and related freshwater species were raised for the food market.

Its existing equipment could handle basic raw-material preparation, weighing, mixing, and finished-product handling, but it lacked a dedicated extrusion machine for developing a wider range of processed fish feeds. RICHI recommended the DSP-90B wet single-screw extruder as a practical addition to the facility.

The project focused on extruded carp feed made primarily from cereal ingredients and plant proteins, with selected marine protein ingredients, oils, vitamins, and minerals included according to the formulation. The initial product plan covered approximately 2–4 mm pellets for smaller fish and intermediate growth stages, with larger sizes considered for grow-out carp when required.

The customer purchased one machine, not a complete fish feed production line. The purpose was to introduce a new processing capability, test different feed formulations, and serve local aquaculture customers with more consistent pellet products while continuing to use suitable equipment already installed at the plant.

Why a Romanian Fish Feed Producer Needed Extrusion Equipment

Romania has a long-established freshwater aquaculture sector, supported by pond farming, reservoirs, and river-connected aquatic environments. Common carp is a familiar species in Romanian fish farming, and pond-based production remains relevant to the country's freshwater aquaculture industry. This makes carp feed a commercially appropriate application for a specialist feed producer serving local farms rather than an arbitrary choice of fish species for the project.

For a feed manufacturer working with pond farmers, the requirements are not always the same from one customer to another. Smaller fish may need finer feed particles, while larger carp can consume larger pellets. Some farms prioritize economical feed for routine grow-out; others want more controlled pellet dimensions, improved handling, or a product suited to a particular feeding method. A manufacturer that relies on only one conventional feed form may have limited flexibility when responding to these different requests.

The customer in this project was a regional aquaculture feed producer rather than an individual fish farmer. It already handled cereal-based feed ingredients and compound feed mixtures, but wanted to develop extruded products alongside its existing offerings. Buying an extruder as a standalone machine made more sense than replacing the whole facility because the upstream preparation and mixing stages were already available.

The decision was also linked to investment control. A complete fish feed production line would require additional capital for equipment that the customer did not necessarily need to replace. By concentrating the purchase on the extrusion stage, the producer could expand its product range first and evaluate demand before considering further upgrades. The existing dryer, cooler, conveyors, and packing equipment would be assessed for compatibility with the intended production rate and product specifications.

The Selected Machine: RICHI DSP-90B Wet Single-Screw Extruder

RICHI selected the DSP-90B wet single-screw extruder for the project. This model is designed for wet extrusion applications and has a listed production capacity of 0.5–0.6 T/H. It suits a smaller specialist operation that needs to introduce extruded fish feed without immediately committing to the output level of a large industrial aquafeed plant.

The model was chosen according to the customer's expected production scale, rather than selecting the largest available machine. The listed capacity provides a starting point for planning, but actual throughput depends on the recipe, moisture content, die configuration, operating settings, and required pellet characteristics. A formulation with different starch content or a more demanding product specification may run at a different rate.

The customer also needed to check the available electrical supply, floor space, feeding arrangement, and connections to the existing downstream equipment. The machine dimensions are one part of the installation plan; sufficient working space is also needed for operator access, routine cleaning, die changes, and maintenance.

Raw Materials Selected for Romanian Carp Feed

The planned formulation used ingredients that are commercially familiar in European compound feed manufacturing and suitable for consideration in carp feed. The exact recipe would be established according to fish size, growth targets, ingredient prices, nutrient requirements, and the physical characteristics expected from the finished pellets.

Potential ingredients included wheat, maize, soybean meal or soybean protein concentrate, sunflower meal, rapeseed meal, wheat gluten, pea protein ingredients, selected fishmeal, vegetable oil, and vitamin-mineral premix. Cereal ingredients can contribute starch and energy, while plant protein sources help supply protein. Fishmeal can contribute digestible protein and other nutrients, while oils increase dietary energy and help meet the intended fatty-acid profile.

For an initial process discussion, the producer considered an illustrative blend containing 20% wheat, 15% maize, 24% soybean meal, 12% sunflower meal, 5% wheat gluten, 8% rapeseed meal, 5% fishmeal, 5% oil, 3% vitamin-mineral premix, and 3% pea protein ingredient. These proportions total 100% and serve only as an example of a possible ingredient structure. They are not a nutritionally validated commercial formula, and they should not be adopted without checking the nutrient balance, ingredient quality, digestibility, and suitability for the target carp growth stage.

Romanian cereal production provides a reasonable context for considering wheat and maize in a locally oriented feed formulation. However, the final inclusion rate for each ingredient depends on its delivered cost, nutritional composition, storage condition, and performance during processing. A lower-cost raw material is not automatically the best choice if it creates problems with extrusion, pellet durability, or the nutritional value of the feed.

Sunflower meal and rapeseed meal can contribute plant protein, but their fiber levels and processing characteristics need to be considered. Soybean-derived ingredients provide another protein source, while wheat gluten can influence binding and pellet structure. The formulation team would balance these ingredients rather than simply maximizing the proportion of any single protein source.

The role of the extruder is to process the prepared mixture into the intended pellet form. It does not replace nutritional formulation. Before commercial production, the feed manufacturer should confirm that the recipe meets the target species' nutritional requirements and that the chosen ingredient combination can be processed reliably with the selected machine.

What the Extruded Carp Feed Is Intended to Achieve

The initial product range was planned around approximately 2–4 mm pellets for smaller carp and intermediate growth stages. The final diameter would depend on the fish size and feeding practice at each customer farm. Larger carp may require a different pellet size, and the producer could evaluate additional dies and formulations if demand justified expanding the product range.

Extrusion can change the physical structure of a feed mixture through the combined effects of moisture, heat, pressure, and mechanical energy. Depending on the recipe and operating conditions, it can help produce pellets with a more uniform shape and a controlled internal structure. These characteristics may be useful when a fish farmer wants a consistent product that can be handled, transported, and distributed with predictable physical properties.

Whether the finished carp feed floats, sinks slowly, or sinks more rapidly depends on formulation, moisture, processing conditions, die design, and the required product specification. Floating feed can make feeding activity easier to observe in suitable pond conditions, while sinking or slow-sinking feed may be preferred for other feeding practices. The correct choice depends on the farming system and the behavior of the fish, not simply on the extruder model.

Water stability also matters. Feed that breaks down too quickly can contribute to uneaten feed and deteriorating water quality, while excessively hard pellets may not be appropriate for every fish size. The target should be a balance among pellet integrity, feeding behavior, nutrient delivery, and the practical conditions on the farm.

For this reason, the producer planned to evaluate pellet diameter, length, density, durability, and water stability during product trials. The machine's performance would be judged by the finished feed and its suitability for the intended customer, not just by the quantity passing through the extruder.

How the Wet Single-Screw Extrusion Process Fits the Plant

In this project, the new extruder would sit between the existing mixing operation and the downstream finishing stages. Raw materials would first be cleaned and reduced to suitable particle sizes, then weighed and mixed according to the selected formula. The prepared mixture would be supplied to the extrusion process, where moisture and thermal conditions would be adjusted before the material passed through the screw and die.

The cutter would divide the extruded material into pellets of the required length. The hot product would then need suitable drying and cooling before it could be screened, stored, or packed. If the existing finishing equipment could not manage the required throughput or product characteristics, the plant would need to assess those limitations before confirming the final operating plan.

The process sequence can be summarized as follows:

  1. Ingredient preparation: Clean and grind the cereal and protein ingredients to a suitable particle size.
  2. Batch mixing: Combine the ingredients and premix evenly according to the approved formula.
  3. Wet extrusion: Feed the mixture through the conditioning and extrusion stages to form the selected pellet structure.
  4. Cutting and finishing: Control pellet length, then dry and cool the product as required by the final moisture specification.
  5. Screening and packing: Remove unsuitable fines where necessary and prepare the finished feed for storage and delivery.

This arrangement allows the customer to add extrusion capability without automatically replacing every machine in the facility. However, existing equipment should only be reused after checking its actual condition, throughput, and compatibility with the new product. The extruder cannot compensate for inadequate grinding, inconsistent mixing, or insufficient drying capacity elsewhere in the process.

Why the Customer Purchased One Machine Instead of a Complete Line

The purchase was driven by a specific gap in the plant: the customer could prepare compound feed mixtures but did not have the extrusion equipment needed to make the new carp feed products. The existing facility already contained useful equipment, so a complete line would have increased the investment without necessarily solving a problem that existed at every process stage.

A standalone fish feed extruder also gives the producer a manageable way to introduce a new product category. The company can start with a limited number of formulations, monitor customer demand, and improve operating settings as production experience grows. If orders increase later, the business can review whether additional drying capacity, a larger extruder, or dedicated conveying and storage equipment is justified.

This is an important distinction for feed manufacturers considering a carp feed extruder machine in Romania. The best investment is not always the biggest package. It is the configuration that closes the actual processing gap while maintaining a sensible relationship between capital expenditure, expected output, and product demand.

For a small or medium-sized aquafeed operation, the DSP-90B's listed capacity of 0.5–0.6 T/H offers a starting point for evaluating this type of staged investment. The final selection should still be confirmed against the expected production schedule, recipe behavior, and the capacity of the machines before and after extrusion.

RICHI's Technical Work Before Equipment Selection

Before confirming a machine for an aquafeed project, the most useful discussion concerns the intended product. Fish species, pellet diameter, feed type, formulation, hourly output, and the existing process arrangement all influence equipment selection. These details help determine whether a wet single-screw extruder is suitable or whether another extrusion configuration should be considered.

For this project, the technical review focused on the customer's proposed carp feed range, the expected production scale, and the equipment already available in the plant. The review also needed to consider the power supply, the physical layout, and the downstream drying and cooling stages. These checks reduce the risk of selecting a machine that appears suitable on paper but does not fit the wider process.

RICHI Machinery supplies equipment for a range of feed applications, including aquafeed, livestock feed, poultry feed, and pet food. Experience across these industries is valuable because each application requires a different balance of raw-material handling, conditioning, extrusion, cutting, drying, and finished-product control. For fish feed in particular, the physical behavior of the pellet is part of the product specification rather than an afterthought.

Technical support can include reviewing the ingredient list, discussing suitable process configurations, checking equipment interfaces, advising on installation requirements, and helping the buyer prepare for operation and maintenance. Where representative raw materials are available, trial processing can help assess the relationship between formulation, machine settings, throughput, and pellet quality.

The customer benefits from approaching the purchase as a process decision rather than a simple equipment transaction. A clear technical brief makes it easier to compare models, estimate the required utilities, plan installation, and define what the finished feed needs to achieve.

Shipping from Qingdao Port to Constanța

The planned shipping arrangement for the Romanian project is sea freight from Qingdao Port in China to the Port of Constanța, Romania's principal Black Sea port. The final shipping schedule and delivery terms would be confirmed once the order configuration, packing details, and freight booking were agreed.

Before dispatch, the equipment model, motor specifications, supplied accessories, and packing list should be checked against the confirmed order. This is particularly important for a standalone machine that will be connected to equipment already installed at the receiving facility. The buyer should also prepare the installation area and confirm the relevant electrical and utility connections before the machine arrives.

For the customer, the purpose of the shipping arrangement was straightforward: receive the DSP-90B as a separate equipment purchase and integrate it into the existing plant. The project did not require a complete production-line shipment, which helped keep the scope focused on the extrusion stage.

Customer Feedback and Practical Results Expected

The project team placed particular value on having a clear equipment specification before purchase. For a feed producer introducing a new product category, uncertainty about the connection between the extruder, the existing dryer, and the final pellet size can be just as important as the machine's rated capacity. Reviewing these details early helped the customer define the questions that needed to be answered before installation.

The customer also appreciated the staged-investment approach. Instead of replacing serviceable equipment, the plan concentrated on the missing extrusion function and retained the option to upgrade other stages later if actual sales volume justified the expense. That made the project easier to evaluate against the expected demand for extruded carp feed.

The most meaningful measure of success would be the finished product: whether the machine can consistently produce the agreed pellet size, whether the feed meets the customer's physical specifications, and whether the downstream equipment can finish and handle the product at the intended rate. Those results would need to be confirmed during commissioning and product trials rather than assumed from the model specification alone.

Discuss a Carp Feed Extruder Machine in Romania with RICHI

For Romanian fish feed manufacturers, pond-farming suppliers, and aquaculture businesses considering extruded carp feed, the first step is to define the product and the role of the new machine. The target fish size, pellet diameter, ingredient composition, required output, and existing equipment all affect the most suitable configuration.

RICHI Machinery can help review these requirements and discuss an appropriate fish feed extruder machine, including wet single-screw and twin-screw wet extrusion options where relevant. Each configuration should be assessed against the intended formulation and production conditions rather than selected solely on the basis of motor power or nominal capacity.

The DSP-90B was selected for this Romanian project because the customer needed a dedicated extrusion stage at a manageable production scale, not an entirely new feed mill. For businesses with a similar requirement, sharing the intended feed formula, pellet dimensions, hourly output, and existing equipment details provides a practical starting point for technical consultation and quotation.
